Ante el clima de incertidumbre que se vive en ambos lados del Río Bravo, existe, al menos, una garantía: no hay muro que contenga el diálogo artístico entre Latinoamérica y la ciudad de Los Ángeles.
El próximo año, más de 70 instituciones públicas y privadas del sur de California formarán parte de una iniciativa masiva de colaboración cultural denominada Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA (PST: LA/LA).
Con un presupuesto que, hasta ahora, asciende a 15 millones de dólares (unos 300 millones de pesos), provenientes de la Fundación Getty, Los Ángeles se alista para fungir como sede de más de 50 exposiciones temáticamente interconectadas y un festival de performance.
Artistas mexicanos y de todos los países del subcontinente, latinos y chicanos, dialogarán con sus obras desde septiembre del 2017 a enero del 2018.
"Nuestra meta principal es incrementar el nivel de entendimiento del arte latino y latinoamericano, dejar un legado alrededor de ello, pero no sólo eso, sino entender cuál es la relación de este arte con Los Ángeles", explica Heather MacDonald, Oficial de Programa de la Fundación Getty.
Un ejemplo de este cometido, entre el medio centenar de exhibiciones, es Radical Women: Latin American Art, 1960-1985, la muestra en The Hammer Museum que busca ser la primera gran genealogía de artistas feministas y radicales en la región durante los años descritos.
