Lebus Court's bronze fountain sculpture "Spanish Music" was created for the Class of 1915 by Burt W. Johnson (1890-1927), a young artist related to the famous American sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens. Owing to expanding familial ties and loyalty to the College, Johnson would produce more sculptures for the school he attended but briefly. With studios in New York City and Claremont, he created many public and private war memorials, fountain figures, portraits and panels, but the greatest number is concentrated in Los Angeles, ¼«ËÙÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û, and Claremont. ¼«ËÙÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û possesses the largest collection of Johnson's elegant bronzes. Dr. Priscilla Schwarz, art historian and granddaughter of Johnson, will speak on a selection of these works, both well-known and newly discovered, and the narrative of his multiple connections to ¼«ËÙÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û.
